Heat Pumps

What are they?
A heat pump heats your home and provides hot water by extracting heat from the air (air source heat pumps), ground (ground source heat pumps) or a water (water source heat pumps) source. It’s a sustainable and environmentally friendly heating solution for your home.
From 2025, gas boilers are being banned from new homes and soon they’ll be phased out of homes already built so a renewable energy heat pump really is the future of heating.
Get ahead of the game now while there are grants and government financial incentives to installing these in your home, save on your energy bills and help save the planet!
Can I have one in my home?
Heat pumps are suitable for most homes and we can come out free of charge to assess this for you. There are a few things to consider for example, if you live in a low energy efficient, drafty property, then installing a heat pump without implementing other energy efficient measures such as insultation your heat pump will struggle to be effective. We will carry out a survey of your home and provide you with guidance on the most efficient type and model of heat pump for your home.
Depending on your building, a heat pump can replace your boiler and be connected straight into your existing central heating system. If you do not have pipework in place in your home (e.g. your home runs solely from electricity) you can still have a heat pump installed but we would need to install pipe work throughout the home in addition to the heat pump.
Funding a heat pump installation
We are MCS registered to install heat pumps. MCS is a mark of quality and using an MCS certified installer ensures that equipment meets good standards of performance and that installers are technically safe and competent. It also means you can apply for government grants and payment incentives.
The Green Homes Grant can provide you with up to £10,000 upfront towards a heat pump installation for your home, tenanted or holiday home property. Check the gov website to find out whether you would be eligible and how much you could claim https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-for-the-green-homes-grant-scheme. The Green Home Grant Scheme is now closed to all new applications after 31 March 2021.
In addition or instead of the Green Homes Grant you can get an Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which is an annual payment paid for 7 years, with the amount dependant on the specific heat loss calculations for your property and could be worth thousands of pounds a year. Find out more about the RHI through Offgem here https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/environmental-programmes/domestic-rhi But be quick as this is set to run out to all new applicants on 31 March 2022. You will need to have had your heat pump installed and commissioned by this date to apply.
In addition to this your bills can be considerably reduced making this a worth while investment which pays for itself. Investing in eco-measures to your home can also increase the value of your home.
As part of your installation we will provide you with a survey based on your property and heat loss calculations which will provide you with the amount you could benefit from RHI payments together with the amount you will save in heating bills to provide a cost benefit analysis for you to make an informed decision.
Warranties and Protection
We are members of HIES consumer protection code and as part of your installation with us you get a 2 year workmanship warranty and a 2 year insurance backed guarantee on the product installed as standard. All our products come with at least a 1 year warranty which can be extended at your choice. This means that your installation is insured regardless of the company that installs it to protect against companies going bust and not honouring warranties (though we are not going anywhere!)
We are also TrustMark registered and a member of the Association of Plumbers and Heating Contractors (APHC) and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) so you can be reassured that you are in good hands.
